I am horrible about remembering birthdays, and especially about sending cards or gifts. So this year I decided since everyone in my family was going to be in Utah for my sister's wedding, I would make these cute little frames for all of my nieces and nephews. It is a fun easy project, but it got a little stressful because I procrastinated and ended up working on them for hours every night the week before we left. They turned out really cute (just don't look too close), and they are fairly cheap to make, depending on how much extras you put on. I just love my nieces and nephews so much, I hope they all know that!!! If you are interested in making some of these frames, here is what you will need:
wooden frames from Michaels $1.00 each (in the wood section)
scrapbook paper for the front
corresponding craft paint for the back and sides (just the cheap stuff)
modge podge - this is the most important part
paintbrushes and sandpaper
and any extras you want to put on like letters, ribbon, glitter, embellishments, etc.
First trace front of the frame onto the back of the scrapbook paper and cut out (tip, label the paper with top and bottom so you don't put it on upside down). Then, paint the back and sides of the frame and allow to dry. Put modge podge generously onto the front of the frame and quickly place the scrapbook paper on top. Flatten and press all the bubbles out and allow to dry. Next, take the sandpaper and lightly sand the edges of the paper so they meet the sides of the frame. Then put one or two coats of modge podge over the entire frame, to give it that finished look. Add any extras you would like, and voila! You have a cute, personalized, one of a kind frame! Plus, depending on the extras, they run about $3-$5 a piece! You can also do this with wooden letters or mats to go inside frames, or just about anything to want.
Emily's frame
Keldan and Konner's frames
Devin, Natalie and Amanda's frames
Karissa, Victoria and Julia's frames

Hey that's a really great idea. I am ALWAYS in the market for cheap homemade gifts. Unfortunately I have like 60 relatives in my immediate family so getting everyone's birthday is out of the question!!!!
